3D Print Calcs
Temperature Tower Test
How to read this test
Print the tower and look for the "best" temperature to use based on overall print quality, clean bridges, and overhangs. There are no calculations required for this step.
Creality Print: Set the temp in the Filament -> Print temperature area.
Tip: It's generally a good practice to set the first layer temperature at least 5 degrees higher than the rest to assure good bed adhesion.
Flow Ratio (2-Pass Test)
How to read this test
Inspect the top surfaces of the printed blocks. Look for the block with the smoothest surface, lacking both gaps between lines (under-extrusion) and rough ridges (over-extrusion). Enter the modifier values from the best looking blocks for Pass 1 and Pass 2.
Creality Print: Found in Filament -> Basic Information under Flow ratio.
Pressure Advance (Tower)
How to read this test
Examine the corners of the printed tower. Find the height where the corner is sharpest, before it starts to round (bulge) or break apart (under-extrude). Measure the height from the bottom of the print to this optimal point using calipers.
Creality Print: Found in Filament -> Basic Information. Check Enable pressure advance and enter the value into the Pressure advance text box.
Retraction Distance Test
How to read this test
Inspect the tower for stringing between the pillars. Start counting the sections from the bottom, with the very first bottom block being 0. Identify the lowest section where stringing disappears completely and enter its number.
Creality Print: Found in Setting Overrides under Length (the top option).
Retraction Speed Test
How to read this test
Inspect the tower for stringing and pitting. Start counting the sections from the bottom, with the very first bottom block being 0. Identify the lowest section where both stringing and pitting/gaps are minimized and enter its number.
Creality Print: Found in Setting Overrides under Retraction speed.
Max Volumetric Speed Test
How to read this test
Look at the printed object and find the point where the extrusion starts to fail, become matte/inconsistent, or skip. Measure the height from the bottom of the print to this failure point using calipers.
Creality Print: Found in Filament -> Volumetric speed limitation under Max volumetric speed (the last option).
